Flournoy School visits McCarty Creek Ranch Alpacas

The Flournoy school students and teachers came to visit us on Friday May 17th. I really wasn't sure what to expect. Mike and I had rehersed some things we wanted to share with the children but as soon as they got out of their cars the planned speeches were thrown out the window. The children fired question after question at us. They wanted to know everything they could about the alpacas. One kid even knew that Alpacas, Llamas and Camels all belonged in the camelid family. I didn't expect that from a 4th grader.

We had fleeces and finished products all around so they could touch the fiber. But, they really wanted to meet the alpacas. So, we divied up the pellets and the children all went off in different directions to feed the alpacas. And of course, the alpacas didn't mind that at all.

It was a great way to spend 2 hours. Great weather, and great energy. Who knows, there may just be a alpaca breeder among them someday.
